A Gateway Location

Located just 23 miles east of downtown Dallas on the shores and hills overlooking the massive Lake Ray Hubbard; the City of Rockwall is the county seat for one of the fastest growing counties in Texas. With several miles of frontage along Interstate 30, Rockwall is conveniently positioned as a gateway to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex – the top metropolitan area in the country for job growth – with easy access to Interstates 20, 30, 635, U.S. Highways 45, 75, 80, and the President George Bush Turnpike. Nearby airports within a 45-minute drive include DFW International, Dallas Love Field, Mesquite Municipal and Rockwall Ralph Hall Municipal.

Demographics

Despite its growth, Rockwall County is the smallest county by land area in Texas, and at a population of approximately 45,000 residents, the City of Rockwall maintains its small-town charm. This is most visible in its vibrant downtown and old town square that boasts unique shops and non-chain restaurants. Rockwall has a wide-ranging housing stock, but with a median housing value of $225,000, the community has many affordable options. Additionally, Rockwall values education.  Just recently, Rockwall Independent School District was given an “A” in the Texas Education Agency’s Accountability Ratings, meaning the school district scored in the top 12% of all school districts in Texas. These high marks should come as no surprise in a community where 40% of residents aged 25 and older possess a bachelor’s degree or higher.

Land Availability

Aside from the strong quality of life, one of the key benefits for business relocation to Rockwall is the availability of developable land.  Office development with scenic lakefront views can occur near the popular Rockwall Harbor or in other denser, mixed-use areas in the community.  Access to the DGNO Railroad is available on many parcels on the east end of Rockwall, allowing light-industrial users to receive bulk materials at a fraction of the cost of trucking.  And if speed of development is a necessity, the Rockwall Technology Park has over 70 acres of shovel-ready that can accommodate a qualified light industrial or office user.

Whether or not the Rockwall Economic Development Corporation owns the land – as is the case at the Rockwall Technology Park – the REDC has aggressive incentives available that can lead to reduced or free property, infrastructure support, or other direct cash incentives that help defray costs.   Additionally, businesses have found that relocating to Rockwall provides a cheaper option than many alternatives in the DFW Metroplex, while still being close enough to big-city amenities.

Strong Workforce

Due to Rockwall’s location within the large DFW Metroplex, there are over 2.5 million members of a diverse and talented workforce residing within a 45-minute drive time of the community.  Also, numerous community college, career/technical institutions and four-year universities are within mere miles, providing the local business community with the highest degree of education, training and support.  The REDC works closely with state and regional partners to ensure local employers have access to individuals with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to compete in a global economy.  In that spirit, the REDC hosts a popular job fair every year exclusive to Rockwall companies, where exclusively Rockwall companies are matched with job candidates seeking employment in the community.
