Richmond itself maintains an approximate population of 3,800, with a 30-mile draw radius of over 350,000. The town is 20 minutes away from Topsham/Brunswick, 30 minutes from Augusta, 35 minutes from Lewiston/Auburn, and 45 minutes from Portland. And the beautiful Maine coast is just 20 minutes away and reachable by car or boat. Portland and Augusta represent the nearing port city and commercial airport respectively.

Richmond is a charming community centrally located, with easy access to Topsham, Brunswick, Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, Portland and the Capital of Augusta. All of these communities offer cultural activities, galleries, shops and dining.

The town is made up of beautiful farms, Victorian and Greek Revival homes and a growing vibrant village with a supportive community and a rich historical story to tell. The town sits on the banks of the Kennebec River. Swan Island, actually an abandoned 18th and 19th-century town called Perkins Township, is a stone’s throw away and has long been recognized for its varied and interesting history. It was used by Native American tribes, early explorers and settlers and was reportedly visited by American historical figures such as Aaron Burr and Benedict Arnold. The town is also known for its shipbuilding history, its dairy farms and tales of the Underground Railroad.

Richmond is part of a great K-12 school system, and also offers a medical center, small grocery, professional offices, a marina, unique shops and galleries, restaurants and so much more.

Richmond’s growing waterfront offers moorings and docking services such as gas, power and pump-out, along with easy access to the North along the Kennebec up to Augusta or to the South headed towards Bath and the open Atlantic. Neighboring Swan Island offers picnics and camping.

So… Come for a visit, whether you’re traveling by car or boat, stroll up the hill for ice cream, shop in a unique art gallery, have lunch at the Railway Cafe, a beer and panini at The Old Goat, or many other offerings at a variety of local restaurants. Don’t forget to grab some supplies from our local hardware and grocery store for your journey by boat or car.
