TARGET INDUSTRIES

AGRICULTURE
The City of Lakes is a bustling hub for producers of life-sustaining crops, prized livestock and industry-related innovation. We are the state’s largest producer of hogs and corn, and in the Top Ten for soybeans and cattle. As a result, there are over 250 agriculture-related businesses in Martin County, such as Rosen’s Inc, International Ag Labs, Advantage Drainage Systems, Kahler Automation, and Devenish Nutrition.

ADVANCED MANUFACTURING
Avery Weigh-Tronix, 3M, Kenway Engineering, Fairmont Foods, Zierke Built Manufacturing…these are just a handful of the 900 national and homegrown companies that call Fairmont home. They come and stay because of the manufacturing base’s long-term stability, reliable employee base, affordable utilities and access to various modes of transportation. Surrounding Martin Country has also led Southern Minnesota in development and retention of renewable energy resources.

DISTRIBUTION
With access to a Municipal Airport just 150 miles from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, a storied railroad system and two major highways, it’s no wonder distribution companies including Rosen’s Diversified Inc., Mid-America Distributing, LLC, Cloverleaf Cold Storage and JH Larson have setup shop in Fairmont. Given the easy access to major markets, from Minneapolis/St. Paul to Des Moines to Sioux Falls to Chicago, companies with robust customer bases can affordably and efficiently import raw materials and export goods and services.

RECREATION

Located near the Iowa Border, Fairmont is known for its beautiful city parks and chain of five lakes, where residents and visitors can fish, swim, boat, jet ski and windsurf. There are a variety of nearby public and private golf courses; an Aquatic Park featuring two 3-story water slides; and a Community Education and Recreation program to help all ages better appreciate and take advantage of the outdoors.

There are nearly 400 acres of scenic parkland in Fairmont alone with several surrounding Martin County parks, which feature various landscapes for hikers, bikers and wanderers. Visitors to the area will find 29 parks that include playgrounds, athletic fields, green spaces and flower gardens. And when winter comes to Southern Minnesota, these same grounds turn into a wonderland for ice skaters, cross country skiers, and snowmobilers.

Blizzard Snowmobile Club grooms 140 miles of trails in Martin County. We connect up with Iowa trails to the South and bordering counties to the East and North, which lead to many other trail systems.
