site location partnershipHanover Township, PA (February 14, 2011) Site Location Partnership (SLP), a Dallas-based consulting firm specializing in corporate site selection and location strategy, announced that Colonial Snacks, which produces Zapp's and Dirty Chips, has expanded its food manufacturing operations to Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The company’s 40,000 square foot production plant will initially employ 15 people and supply potato chips to delis throughout the Northeastern U.S.

Colonial Snacks is a subsidiary of potato chip manufacturer Zappe Endeavors. Based in Gramercy, Louisiana, Zapp's is best known for its unique flavors such as Cajun Crawtator, Cajun Dill, Hotter n Hot Jalapeno, and Creole Tomato spiked with Tabasco and Voodoo. The company recently agreed to a partnership with Hanover-based Utz to help distribute its Dirty Chips to stores such as Sheetz, Turkey Hill and Wawa.

The potato chips have grown in popularity along the East Coast, according to Colonial Snacks Plant Manager, Barry Wiggins. “We've been sending chips here for the last five years which we have been producing in Louisiana,” Wiggins said. “You see our products in delis and little mom and pop stores. It's just been steadily growing and we decided to put a plant up here.”

“They wanted to be in Northeastern Pennsylvania because of their proximity to large metro markets such as New Jersey and New York,” stated John Augustine, senior director of economic and entrepreneurial development for the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry. “They fell in love with the building. They've been very happy with the workforce here. We're certainly hopeful for their future expansion."
