Enterprise Zone
The Ocala Enterprise Zone is a five-square-mile area generally located in the western and northern section of the city. It primarily targets West Ocala, but also includes such areas as a section of Ocala International Airport property off SW 60th Avenue, Meadowbrook Industrial Park off SW 20th Street, Ocala International Commerce Park off SR 40 and the Magna property off U.S. 27.
The incentives include sales tax credits for job creation, corporate income tax credits, business equipment and building material sales tax refunds, and partial sales tax reductions for electrical energy.
Incentives/Investments
The State of Florida, Marion County and the City of Ocala aggressively promote new job creation by offering various investments to assist companies in their site and community selection process. These investments come in the form of grants, refunds, or abatements and may be used singularly or in concert with each other to enhance a company’s profitability. Typical uses for investments include: personnel recruitment and training, infrastructure development, mitigating moving costs, reduction of start-up expenses, etc. Generally most investments may be applied for by new or existing industry although the amounts may vary due to differing formulas applied to the status of the applicant.A steady supply of skilled workers is available in Marion County, Florida. The entire workforce, including adjoining counties, totals more than 650,000.
Marion County's unemployment rate rose to an average 12.75% during 2009 and has averaged 14.50% during 2010. With a higher number of available workers, new employers can find an eager pool of candidates. One of the key elements in the Ocala/Marion County EDC’s Strategic Plan is Workforce Initiatives. The EDC looks for creative ways to utilize business and community partners to ensure a skilled and reliable workforce is available for employers.
