North Dakota is often called “The Saudi Arabia of wind power in the USA.” One of 10 states with substantial wind power capability, North Dakota could readily accommodate 2,000 large commercial-scale turbines generating over 4,000 megawatts of electrical power. And, as turbine designs become more efficient and electric transmission grids are modernized, North Dakota’s powerful and persistent winds have the potential to produce vast amounts of power.
Devils Lake Region State College: Lake Region State College anticipated the emergence of this workforce need, and a wind turbine technician program is in place. A turbine technician combines working knowledge of mechanics, hydraulics, meteorology, composites, and computer science when servicing and maintaining large, commercial-scale turbines.
